Both films and books (literature) are forms of 'art'. Both involve the creation and expression of something. In many ways, films and books are similar and in English we often use the same word to describe both a film and a book. However, while films and books are similar, they are also very different in some ways, and we have words that can be only used to describe either a book or a film.
